Sub sea ROV and Seismic applications of Vicor power modules
The Scenario
In the application of sub sea systems it is vital to have reliable electronic systems at commercially viable prices. In the sub sea business Vicor power modules have become widely accepted as a viable solution delivering a combination of reliability and design flexibility all at an affordable cost.
The Challenge
Our customer's design engineers look for compact power modules that can operate from typically high input voltages ranging perhaps between 100V and 300V for example. The environmental conditions once in the water can be relatively controlled however once on deck of the support craft the conditions can become extremely hostile with either very low or high temperatures. In the application of seismic transducers, shock and vibration becomes a concern.
The Solution
For all of these requirements, Vicor's product range is the ideal choice. As standard there are twelve input voltage ranges covering 9V to 425V in convenient steps. Operating and storage temperatures cover -65C to +100C and package options give a choice for assembly. For ruggedness, all of Vicor's modules are potted, ensuring excellent shock and vibration resistance. During potting the modules are spun to expel air pockets to avoid atmospheric pressure damage. Connection terminals are gold plated for long term reliability and can be connected to a pcb directly with solder or via high reliability sockets.
Why Us?
To support our customers requirements Acal offers a prototype express service with the support of Vicor's US based manufacturing facility. Concepts or actual designs can then be reviewed by our applications engineers prior to build and test. The combination of short lead times and local support give a great advantage to our customers in getting their product to market in the most efficient way. For these reasons Acal was chosen by our offshore customers for a high level of technical and commercial support coupled with broad range of ancillary products such as interconnect products and value added services.
